Grand Safari: the way it should be

How your rifles, trophies and travel documents are handled, so you can simply arrive and hunt.

Trophies and transport

Grand Safari trackers are not only experts at tracking and skinning but good companions and assistants during your safari. The field preparation of your trophies, and the taxidermy that follows, are two very important parts of the experience. We do the field preparation ourselves and work with taxidermists in South Africa.

A quick visit to their workshop after your safari shows how it is done: the work is of very high quality, delays are moderate and all paperwork is done on time. If you are accustomed to another taxidermist, we forward your raw trophies (often called “dipping & packing”) to the taxidermist of your choice. Your Tanzanian trophies can be shipped to South Africa, or to any other taxidermist in the world. The choice is yours.

Weapons

It is always recommended to hunt with your own guns, and you will be able to do so at any of our destinations. We provide the necessary forms and take care of getting all African permits on your behalf. You will also need a US Customs form (Form 4457), obtained before you leave the United States, listing the make, model and serial number of your guns, to show on your return.

We also have a limited number of rifles to rent at all our camps. Calibres vary with the type of hunting. This has to be booked well in advance, so contact us for details.

Passport and visas

South Africa and Namibia issue a tourist visa to US citizens on arrival at the airport. They require at least six months’ validity on your passport and blank pages. Tanzania requires US citizens to hold a tourist visa; it is best to consult the Tanzanian embassy for all visa requirements.

Entry rules change. Always confirm current requirements for your nationality with the relevant embassy or consulate before you travel.
